SUN, SEA, SAILING AND SPONGES ON SYMI ISLAND

If you’ve seen my Instagram lately, you might have seen some sun, sea, sailing and sponges on Symi island from my recent trip to Greece. There’s something about all the blue and white in Greece that makes me seriously snap happy. It appears to have even inspired my wardrobe colour palette, which I promise you was totally unintentional.

While we were staying in Rhodes, the opportunity came up for a day trip to Symi. If you hadn’t already noticed, I have a bit of an obsession with nauti life, so I had my day bag packed faster than you can say ‘souvlaki’!

Wind whipping our hair, I wondered when the Champagne would be served, while I got to know my new pals a little better.

From left to right, that’s Morris, Bastiaan and Malin. We quickly became the best of friends and the naughty school kids, it has to be said.

Skimming across the Aegean, speeding towards Symi confirmed that sailing really is the best way to get around. We even considered asking the captain to take us on an overnight crossing to Athens and bail on our flight that night.

It appeared too cute to be real, but we were assured over two thousand people permanently reside there.

Strolling through the tiny lanes and along the seafront, we were invited in for end of season sales in lots of cute shops. Selling as much blue and white as you could possibly ever need or want and of course, Symi’s famous sea sponges.

They should look like these earthy brown ones and cost no less than ten euro.

All that shopping worked up a hunger, so with rumbling bellies and a thirst to quench, we set off around the harbour in search of a suitable spot. Of course, via some seriously drool worthy vantage points for pictures of the marina, obviously.

Perfectly painted blue and white houses, fishing trawlers and turquoise waters. Cafés, shopping stalls and restaurants lining the walkways, with mopeds speeding by at regular intervals during island rush hour. Which is about as speedy as our long and lingering lunch at this little slice of heaven…

Lashings of seafood, feta and Mythos to wash it all down, while sitting in the shade overlooking Symi’s crystalline waters and planning a swim stop on the way back to Rhodes. Sun, sea, sailing and sponges on Symi island (plus lots of Greek cheese and salt water splashes!) – is there a better way to spend a day?

Nadia El Ferdaoussi Travel Blogger Rhodes Greece Symi Athens Aegean TUI Discover Your Smile Winter Sun Holiday sun sea sailing and sponges on Symi islandAs soon as we’d anchored up in this adorable sheltered bay, we found the highest point aboard Mary and embarked on an epic Boomerang-athon. Failed attempts mean you just have to jump again, anything for that perfect shot. Check out some of my Instagram posts below, ICYMI!

October really was a great time to visit, but I think we might have got lucky with the weather. For better chances of sun, Falcon Holidays run holidays to Rhodes from May all summer long on falconholidays.ie (I’ve just spotted a week for around €400pp including flights at the beginning of the season!).

You can book day trips to Symi via the English speaking TUI reps in the resorts, totally hassle free!

I travelled to Greece as a guest of Falcon Holidays who are part of the TUI Group and the Greek National Tourism Organisation. All view are, now and always, my own. This post was not sponsored.
