Race day diary

I’ve never been to the Galway races, so preparing for Ladies’ day, when our dress code was ‘colour’ was a bit of a mission for me. My wardrobe comprises of black, white, grey and denim and most of the shops have their Autumn stock in already with loads of muted neutrals and at brightest a burgundy print, so finding something to fit the brief proved rather difficult. I went as a guest of Dove, you see…who have just launched the first deodorant to leave no white marks on 100 different colours. Here’s my race day diary…

I struck it lucky with Oasis, who had tonnes of colour in their summer sale plus the perfect new collection pieces to complete the look and TK Maxx, where actually deciding which colour accessories to choose was a difficult task because they have so many designer brands for less.

But first, coffee…..and a shit load of make up and bacon sandwiches.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]Absolutely spoiled in The Dean Hotel with a glam squad to help us get races-ready and endless supply of hangover cures in the shape of delicious carbs, I set about deciding which accessories to go for. Although, I was still torn between two pairs of sunnies from TK Maxx…but isn’t that what Snapchat is for, to help you in your hour of need? (You’ll find me @nadia_dailyself BTW).[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]We hit the road at about 11am, Galway-bound. Silly-excited about the stop in Athlone’s Apple Green garage where they have a walk-in refrigerated beer CAVE. So easily pleased. We arrived just in time for (a five course!) lunch and got started on betting. I went for any jockey matching my green outfit, but turns out that’s actually a really dumb way to decide where to place your money. Whatevs.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]It was pretty windy, so bar a couple of races where we watched from the balcony, I stayed within the safe confines of our table in the Hurdle Suite. And anyway, the food just kept coming so you wouldn’t want to miss a course!

I went for this green cami and lime print skirt from Oasis in the end and paired it with sunglasses, headband and belt from TK Maxx. I grabbed my leather biker on the way out the door and decided on my Vivienne Westwood Melissa cherry heels, in keeping with my self-imposed fruit theme.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]I’m still getting to grips with my Fujifilm Instax Mini8, anyone else find it tricky playing around with the settings? The above two images were taken by Ciara O’Doherty on her new Olympus PEN camera (E-PL7) which I’m seriously lusting over, see more of her pics on her website. [dt_gap height=”10″ /]

Our group seemed to be the last ones standing, but we couldn’t leave the Galway races without one for the road (and a stop in “Applebee’s” to raid that beer cave).[dt_gap height=”10″ /]
