GET READY FASTER

I used to spend forever getting ready, before I realised the amount of time you input has no correlation to the amount of fun you have after. Travelling a lot has really helped me to get ready faster, which is down to a couple of things. Firstly, I don’t have access to every beauty product I own, I’m limited to a small(er) make up bag and just one hair styling tool, which eliminates choice and for me decision making can be a lengthy process. Two; while I adore hotels, I can’t stand to spend too much time in the room, no matter how nice it is. I’d rather get out and explore, (even if that means just getting as far as the bar) so now I get ready faster to spend as little time in dimly lit spaces, awkward-to-get-to mirrors and get out quick stat. A few products and packing tips I’ve picked up along the way have made the whole thing a lot easier. So, if you travel a lot and want to get ready faster so you’ve got more time to enjoy your destination, then keep reading…[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]1. Make up

Once I’ve got brows and lashes and a little something on my skin and lips, I’m feeling human and ready to get outdoors. Prep is key in order to shave time off your morning routine.

I go to Burgundy Beauty in Blackrock for a full set of mink lashes before any trip. Not having to apply mascara is a real time saver, but not having to take it off at night? Absolute winner. Side note; Burgundy are also a Waxperts Wax salon!

I’m not going to sit here and harp on about eyebrow threading and waxing, because frankly…if you were a nineties or noughties teen, chances are you’ve got the opposite problem of too much hair. If you’re one of the lucky ones that needs reshaping, head into one of the Benefit brow bars for a wax or The Body Shop for threading and get a tint while you’re there too. I could never pluck my brows again and you wouldn’t notice a difference, so last year I decided to take action and it’s been the single biggest game changer in getting ready faster. I bit the bullet and decided on permanent make up on my brows, the whole process and techniques have evolved big time in the last few years and I entrusted my friend Orla who runs Devine Eyebrow Embroidery to sort me out. I’ll be honest, it can be pretty painful at times, but the results are so worth it. Orla has been a make up artist for over ten years, so she really knows how to shape brows to flatter your face. I would never go out in public before without pencilling my brows, even to the gym, so to be able to completely skip that step has been a revelation! (100% not even exaggerating, life changing!)

I rarely empty a beauty product, so when I finish one and repurchase, I know it’s good. The Giorgio Armani Maestro Liquid Summer is one of those holy grail products that I don’t know what I did before it. As the name suggests, it’s a bronzer in liquid form, but it also provides radiance and coverage so can be used instead of foundation on holidays and the tan shades help to match your face to your body, plus it has SPF15. I apply it with my fingers and I’m good to go, no separate foundation, concealer, bronzer etc…just one step, simples.

I’m still on the market for a decent lip product with SPF since I can no longer get my hands on MAC’s Sun Tints which were the perfect mix between a balm and a gloss, with sun protection that lasted hours and didn’t taste rank (amazing, I know). Nothing has come close since, any recommendations?[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

After a disastrous hair day week on my first sailing trip (humidity + frizz + no sockets/hair tools), I vowed to find a solution before going on my next sun holiday. I found the answer to my hair woes at Kazumi salon in Dublin with their Keratin Smoothing Complex treatment (aka 12 week blow dry). While it’s not “cheap”, (around €200, but book in for a consultation first), it’s worth every penny. I was literally able to wash and go, a real win in my quest to get ready faster. Of course my hair didn’t dry naturally to a salon-finish blow dry, but it was tamed, manageable and most importantly frizz-free. The results actually lasted longer than twelve weeks, my hair has never gone back to the way it was before. The only con was the awful eggy smell after the first few washes, but that soon vanished.

For faster detangling, I gave up on Tangle Teezers a long time ago in favour of the Goody Quikstyle paddle brush. It’s so much more gentle on your hair and the microfibre bristles absorb water from wet hair so it dries faster. I cannot live without this now![dt_gap height=”10″ /]

3. Organisation / storage

In order to get ready faster, I need to put a little bit more time into getting organised before heading away. Proper planning prevents piss poor performance and all that. Take only the absolute essentials and pack in clear bags so you can find what you need easily and get ready faster. They may not be the most attractive, but I imagine you don’t go on holiday to admire your make up bag, there are much better ways to spend your time. These Emma Lomax London ones are cute and practical or go back to basics with these simple M&S bags.
