You can take the girl out of Dublin, but you can bet she’ll be excited if she sees a Penneys while on holiday! Primark opened its first store in Berlin a few years ago in Alexanderplatz and it was my first stop when I landed on Friday, you know, to pick up a few bits!
I always end up needing a couple of basics, because I travel so much I often won’t have time between unpacking and repacking to get everything that I need washed and ready to go again. I got back from Berlin last night and I head to Amsterdam in the morning, so it’s an endless rotation of suitcases. I did do a big haul in the Mary Street store before heading to Germany though, so I was primed and ready for the weekend.
I needed a cross body bag that would fit my camera and lenses plus all the other bits and bobs you need for a day out sightseeing and picked up this classic black tote with long shoulder strap that was perfect for travelling. The blush t-shirt is from the men’s section, I’m in a round-neck-short-sleeve loving phase at the moment and obsessed with this colour for spring, hence the matching satin trainers!
Blazer, jeans, tee, layered necklace and shoes all Penneys/Primark
Realising the stock is different in the mainland Europe stores, I jumped on the U-Bahn to Alexanderplatz which leaves you directly in front of the huuuuuge Primark, where I spent at least an hour browsing beauty, gym wear, and sandals for my next beach trip. I also picked up a black duffel bag from the men’s section on my way to the till realising how full my basket was and deciding it’d be handy for the flight home.
Emerging back into the square ravenous, I grabbed a hot dog from the Grillrunner guys for €1.50 and sat on the steps watching other shoppers peruse their Primark hauls.
I head back to the outdoor terrace at my hotel, Andel’s by Vienna House to put my feet up, before catching this gorgeous sunset over the Berlin city skyline.
A couple of highlights from the trip;
The infamous Burgermeister, we queued for at least half an hour. Pretty delish but I wouldn’t say it’s the best burger I’ve ever had. Still glad I went though, or I’d have total food fomo.
Sunset views from Monkey Bar at 25hours Hotel
Wendel coffee shop, near Burgermesiter, both are cash only, FYI.
Back to the airport with almost twice as much as I landed in Berlin 48 hours previous. I still managed to stay under the baggage allowance thanks mostly to the new suitcase. The medium sized World’s Lightest It wheeled case is only 1.9kg, less than half the weight of a lot of other cases the same size and only €40. That’s a few pairs of shoes worth, I know what I’d rather carry! The dress, sunglasses, sliders and denim jacket (menswear) are all from Penneys in Dublin too.
