24 hours in Stockholm

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]Sweden is one of those places that I knew I wanted to visit at some point, but it wasn’t on my urgent to do list.  When the opportunity came up to spend 24 hours in Stockholm came along, and stay in Sweden’s best hotel, I couldn’t resist.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

Stockholm Grand Hotel

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]Direct flights weren’t available for the dates I went, so after a stop at London Gatwick, we finally landed at Stockholm Arlanda and set off for the five star Grand Hôtel which sits right on the waterfront across from the Royal Palace.  En route, we passed THE BIGGEST EVER H&M THAT TOOK UP AN ENTIRE BLOCK, I made a mental note to go back at some point. I could’ve spent a helluva lot longer enjoying this view from my room but it was a quick dash to get ready for an evening with REN.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]REN invited me to Stockholm to celebrate their 15th birthday this year. I never knew that the word ‘Ren’ actually means ‘clean’ in Swedish, so it was the perfect spot for the big birthday bash and a sneak peak of their biggest launch of 2015. The stunning Artipelag played host (via an hour long journey in two different taxis, picking up an old Swedish lady and her pet chihuahua for directions – no joke) to the evening, with food from the Nobel Prize Winner’s dinner chef and music courtesy of a performance by the Kaleida girls…it was a right treat![dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]The morning after was spent scrambling for my much needed REN Beauty Shot. It gives an extra potent dose of hyaluronic acid that smoothes and brightens your skin immediately and the results last around six hours (I planned to be snoozing on the plane home by then!).  Fairly reasonable at €48 for the 30ml serum, it’s landing on counters this month. I’ve since spilled half the contents over my dressing table in an early morning panic, definitely one that needs replacing…I’m a sucker for an instant effect. The Grand Hôtel is easily one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in, peeling myself out of the lavish bed was hell, but breakfast made up for it. You could spend a good hour over coffee and delicate little pastries, OR you could horse it into you and head off for a quick boat trip from the harbour. You can guess what I went for.[dt_gap height=”10″ /]

[dt_gap height=”10″ /]With only seconds to spare, we managed to grab tickets for the 50 minute Royal Canal Tour and took our seats just as the boat was departing.  Did we sneak cinnamon rolls from the hotel? That’d be telling.  You’ve got to see Stockholm from the water if you’re visiting, this was really cheap as well…about €20.  We made it back just in time to catch our ride to the airport. Truth be told it was a lot less than 24 hours in Stockholm and that H&M? I never made it back. There’s always next time!
